The dispute over whether lawyers representing detained opposition leader Brian Mundubile and his co‑accused were denied access to their clients has deepened, according to a report from the Lusaka Times on 10 September 2026.
The Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) has denied that it blocked legal representatives from visiting the detainees, stating that no one was turned away improperly.
In contrast, the accused’s legal team maintains that the lawyers were barred from accessing their clients on instructions from unnamed “powers that be.”
Lawyer Chifumu Banda, who is part of the legal team, has highlighted the alleged obstruction, though no official statement from the ZCS has confirmed the claim.
