Climate change is making summer camping in France increasingly risky, with around one in five campsites now located in areas at risk of wildfires. Rising temperatures and prolonged droughts have elevated the danger, prompting stricter safety regulations for campsite owners. Under French law, campsites must ensure fire extinguishers are accessible, emergency exits clear, safety instructions displayed, and a safety log maintained. Pitches are prohibited in high-risk zones classified as forest or woodland. Campers are advised to follow all safety instructions in the event of a wildfire warning. The warning comes as France prepares for another hot summer, with millions expected to holiday at campsites across the country.
