Algerian Senior Executive Wins Court Battle After France Refuses 10-Year Residence

An Algerian woman working as a senior executive in the automotive sector in France has won a legal battle after being denied a 10-year residence certificate, despite meeting all criteria under the 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement. The woman, who earns €4,000 per month and has lived in France for years, saw her application rejected by French authorities. She challenged the decision before an administrative court, which ruled in her favour, citing the bilateral accord.

The case underscores ongoing tensions in France’s immigration enforcement and its application of international agreements. The 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement grants Algerians preferential treatment for residence permits, but recent crackdowns have led to stricter interpretations.

Legal experts say the ruling sets a precedent for similar cases, potentially affecting hundreds of Algerian nationals in France. The French government has not commented on the decision yet.

The woman’s lawyer hailed the verdict as a victory for justice and a reminder of France’s commitments under international law.
