Chinese wildlife kingpin offered K30 million to fix his sentence — as bizarre bail chaos erupts

**Malawi wildlife trafficking case stalls amid bail controversy**

*Lilongwe, Malawi* – The prosecution of Lin Yunhua, a Chinese national accused of leading a major wildlife‑trafficking network, has reached a stand‑still after prosecutors told the High Court that they are unable to decide whether to continue the case, drop it entirely, or release the defendant.

According to court filings, Lin is alleged to have offered 30 million Malawian kwacha (approximately US$30,000) in cash to influence the outcome of his sentencing. The allegations are part of Malawi’s most high‑profile wildlife‑trafficking prosecution to date.

Prosecutors’ uncertainty has sparked confusion over the case’s future. The High Court has yet to determine whether the charges will proceed, be dismissed, or whether Lin will be granted bail. The situation has been described by some observers as a “bizarre bail chaos,” reflecting the lack of a clear direction from the prosecution.

The case remains
