Chacachacare Island, located within the Bocas Island chain off the northwestern coast of Trinidad, recently underwent essential maintenance to improve its facilities and ensure safe maritime navigation. Situated approximately 8 kilometers from the Chaguaramas peninsula, the island serves as a key point for boats and maritime activities.
On April 17, 2026, crews from the Mechanical Services Division and the Maritime Services Division, along with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, conducted maintenance operations on the island. The work focused on clearing overgrown vegetation and removing garbage that had accumulated along the roadway, which had become significant obstructions.
In addition to road maintenance, the lighthouse on Chacachacare Island was inspected. Plans were made to install a replacement bulb, ensuring that the lighthouse continues to aid in safe navigation for vessels in the area.
Chacachacare is currently a favored destination for recreational activities, especially hiking and diving. To preserve the island’s natural beauty, visitors are encouraged to take their garbage with them and dispose of it responsibly, contributing to a cleaner and more enjoyable environment for all.
