Music artist Certified Sampson recently appeared on the Game Changers podcast where he delved into the financial realities of music production. He revealed that he did not make any money from the Soca track he collaborated on with Sekon Sta, in fact, he claimed the project cost him more than it earned. This candid admission challenges the common assumption that all music releases are lucrative.
Sampson went on to explain that the value of his venture into the Soca industry wasn’t monetary but experiential. He gained valuable insights into the business side of the industry, which he views as a form of return on investment.
The decision to venture into Soca music was driven by Sampson’s deep love for the culture of Trinidad and Tobago and his fondness for Caribbean music, including genres like Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Bouyon, and Zouk.
Even though the collaboration with Sekon Sta did not bring in financial success, it served as a valuable learning experience for Sampson. It furthered his understanding of the industry and informed his approach to future creative projects.
Beyond music, Certified Sampson is known for his viral comedy skits and multiple online personas. He has successfully expanded into several business ventures, including the Certified Scoop ice cream brand, while simultaneously building a substantial Caribbean and international fan base.
