BIR Warns Public of Fraudulent Email Scams Targeting Taxpayers

The Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) has issued a public advisory regarding a series of fraudulent email messages that are currently being circulated. These emails misleadingly suggest that individuals have a refund due, often including a reference code and directing recipients to dangerous websites. The BIR emphasizes that it will never initiate contact with taxpayers via email, nor will it provide links or codes in such communications.

Taxpayers are strongly urged to take immediate action by ignoring and deleting any suspicious emails claiming to be from the BIR. The organization underscores the importance of not clicking on any included links or providing personal or financial information in response to these fraudulent messages.

To verify the authenticity of any communication, individuals should ensure it is official correspondence from the BIR, which is identifiable by a unique Letter ID. The BIR encourages the public to reach out directly through established channels for any inquiries. This includes calling 800-TAXX (8299) and selecting Option 1, visiting their official website, or going to the nearest IRD office.

The BIR remains committed to protecting taxpayers’ information and urges the public to stay vigilant against these deceitful schemes.
