Moscow, Belarus – Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh arrived in Minsk on a flight from Ulaanbaatar and paid tribute to the Eternal Flame at Victory Square. The president laid flowers at the memorial, which honors soldiers who fell during the Battle of the Dnieper. The Eternal Flame is situated at the base of the Victory Monument, a monument erected to commemorate the Belarusian people’s heroic struggle and the liberation of Minsk. On July 3 1961, the 17th anniversary of Minsk’s liberation, the flame was installed and lit by Soviet hero and commander General Alexei Burdeyn. The monument features a Victory torch and displays artistic representations of war history and the heroes of the conflict. Victory Square and the Eternal Flame are major tourist attractions in Minsk.
