A fire has closed the Sub-Balkan road connecting Sofia and Burgas in the area of the Sliven village of Zlati Voyvoda, according to police reports. Six teams from the Sliven Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection are working to extinguish the fire between the villages of Selyminovo and Gavrailovo.
The fire, which started with dry grass and shrubs near road SLV 1112 in the Selyminovo area, was reported at 10:27 am. It quickly spread due to strong winds, causing heavy smoke and blocking traffic on the Sub-Balkan road.
As a result of the smoke, a temporary traffic management system has been put in place on road I-6. Drivers from Burgas are being diverted at the Gavrailovo intersection, while drivers from Sofia are being diverted at the Binkos intersection. Currently, traffic has been restored in the direction of Burgas.
The contact network on the railway line between the Selyminovo and Gavrailovo stations has been temporarily suspended, but it is expected to be restored soon.
The fire has been localized, and firefighters are working to extinguish remaining hotspots. There is no danger to nearby populated areas. However, if the strong winds cause the road to become smoky again, traffic will be redirected to designated detour routes.
