ASCC Celebrates Grand Opening of Renovated Fale Samoa, Boosting Community Research

The American Samoa Community College’s Agriculture, Community and Natural Resources Division celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Fale Samoa on July 1, 2026. The project, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, aims to enhance community-focused research while preserving Samoan traditions.

Outgoing ASCC President Dr. Rosevonne Pato was honored as guest of the day, cutting the ceremonial ribbon to officially dedicate the space. Vice President Dr. Letupu Moananu attended on behalf of interim President Sonny J. Leomiti, reflecting college-wide support for the ACNR Division.

The ceremony included a traditional ʻava ceremony and presentation of fine mats to Dr. Pato and other officials as gestures of gratitude. Director Aufaʻi Apulu Ropeti Areta thanked the USDA, college administration, and contractor VAA Construction for bringing the project to completion.

The renovated Fale Samoa will serve as a welcoming space for ACNR’s research mission, blending cultural heritage with modern agricultural and community development work. For more information, visit acnr.amsamoa.edu.
