A horrific incident unfolded late Sunday at New York’s LaGuardia Airport when an Air Canada Express plane collided with a fire truck shortly after landing. The crash claimed the lives of the two pilots on board. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported the incident at around 11:40 p.m.
The plane, which was carrying 72 passengers and a crew of four, had just completed its journey from Montreal. The collision led to a swift closure of the airport, which remained in effect until at least 2 p.m. the following day.
In the aftermath of the collision, 41 people, including two emergency rescue officers, had to be rushed to the hospital. The plane was operated by Jazz Aviation LP, who confirmed these details in a statement.
The aircraft met with the fatal accident shortly after touching down, coming to a standstill about halfway down the runway after hitting a Port Authority fire truck. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
