Accusations of Corruption Engulf TSTT Amidst Union Wage Demands

Amidst rising tension and labor concerns, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has leveled serious allegations of corruption against the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT). At a recent press conference, the union stated that TSTT has become the most corrupt state company since April 2025, alleging mismanagement and poor communication with union representatives.

The CWU is pressing for a 10% salary increase over six years, arguing that the current wages are insufficient to meet the rising costs of living. The union’s leader emphasized that this demand is reasonable, especially as some workers are reportedly still on salaries from 2013. “We believe the purchasing power of all our members, and by extension the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, has been reduced,” the representative stated.

Accusations were also directed towards TSTT’s management, highlighting failures in communication and favoritism in hiring and promotions. Union leaders criticized the management for their lack of transparency and alleged retreats costing hundreds of thousands of dollars without proper advisement to stakeholders involved.

The oversight of Minister Barry Padarat is also under scrutiny as these labor grievances unfold. The union claims that recent meetings to resolve these issues did not include essential figures who could prompt resolution.

These allegations and demands have placed a spotlight on TSTT’s handling of labor negotiations and their internal practices, prompting a call for greater accountability in their dealings with the union.
