On July 20th, James Badu’s life took an unexpected turn when he was struck by lightning. The incident has led to severe health challenges, and his family is striving to manage the resulting upheaval. James, who survived the lightning strike, now grapples with a traumatic brain injury and a range of neurological problems, including brain fog, short-term memory loss, and chronic pain.
Aaya B., his wife, has become his primary caregiver, shouldering the responsibility of maintaining their family’s day-to-day life while navigating the complexities of James’s medical needs. “Every single day, I thank God he is still here,” Aaya shared, expressing gratitude amid their turmoil. The challenges are manifold as Aaya juggles caregiving duties with raising their children.
The family’s financial and emotional burdens have prompted them to seek community support. They are in the process of applying for disability benefits, which could take months to process, and planning a move to Texas to be closer to family who can provide more support. In the meantime, they have launched a fundraising campaign to bridge the gap.
In an effort to turn their struggle into an opportunity for education, Aaya aims to raise awareness about lightning safety. Through sharing their story, she hopes to prevent similar tragedies by encouraging others to understand the risks associated with lightning. “If sharing his story can help protect even just one family, something meaningful can come from what we have endured,” Aaya said.
The Badu family is asking for prayers, donations, and shares of their story to help them navigate this challenging period. “We are trusting God with James’ life and our family’s future,” Aaya expressed, highlighting their reliance on faith and community support to carry them through.
