Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has received international recognition after the City of Lauderhill in Florida officially declared March 8, 2026 as “The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar Day.”
The proclamation was issued by Lauderhill Mayor Denise D. Grant and the City Commission as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. The document recognises Persad-Bissessar’s leadership, dedication to public service and her lasting influence on Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean diaspora.
City officials highlighted the strong presence of Caribbean nationals in South Florida, noting that the Trinidad and Tobago community continues to make meaningful contributions to the social, cultural and economic life of the region.
Within the proclamation, Persad-Bissessar is praised for her distinguished leadership and steadfast commitment to democracy, education, national development and opportunities for women and girls. The recognition also celebrates her role as a trailblazer who has inspired many across the Caribbean and internationally.
Lauderhill, known for its vibrant Caribbean population, regularly acknowledges individuals who have made notable contributions to community development and cultural exchange.
The declaration of “The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar Day” serves as a symbolic gesture of respect and appreciation, strengthening the connection between the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora and the South Florida community.
