A shocking incident unfolded in Frederick Settlement, Caroni on the night of 27th April 2026 when a 25-year-old man was shot and critically injured. The victim, identified as Christian Rampersad of Gilbert Street, was discovered by residents with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers from the Caroni Police district, PC Gopaul and PC Deonarine, responded to the reported gunfire along Kay Street around 10:08 p.m.
Upon their arrival, they found Rampersad lying partially off the roadway in a grassy area. He was dressed in a black hoodie and blue denim jeans, bearing clear evidence of gunshot wounds to his head and body. A swift response saw the victim transported to the hospital in a private car, escorted by the police.
At the hospital, the medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize Rampersad, placing him in the resuscitation unit. Despite their efforts, he remains in a critical condition. In the wake of the incident, crime scene investigators processed the area, recovering several spent 9mm shell casings.
Preliminary enquiries have painted a chilling picture of the event – Rampersad was last seen walking along Kay Street just before the gunfire erupted. The investigations are ongoing with the hope of bringing the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice.
