A website has issued a privacy notice explaining its use of cookies and similar technologies to store or access information on users’ devices. The notice states that consent to these technologies allows the processing of personal data, such as browsing behaviour or unique identifiers, on the site. If users do not give consent or withdraw it, the notice warns that certain functions and features may be negatively affected. The notice lists several purposes for which the technical storage or access is considered necessary. These include: The lawful use of services explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the exclusive purpose of transmitting communications over an electronic communications network. The lawful use of services for storing preferences that have not been requested by the subscriber or user. The use of technical storage or access exclusively for statistical purposes, including anonymous statistics. The creation of user profiles, the sending of advertisements, or the logging of a user on a website or across multiple sites for similar commercial promotion purposes. The notice also notes that, without voluntary compliance from the Internet Service Provider or additional logging by a third party, the information stored or retrieved for these purposes alone is generally not used to identify the user.
