The body of a 21-year-old seaman, Ravindra Bissoondyal, who was reported missing following a barge sinking incident, has been discovered in waters near the Demerara River in Guyana. The incident took place between March 9 and 10, 2026. Bissoondyal worked for a shipping company and was serving as a barge attendant. He made a distress call to his mother, who then contacted the Coast Guard and Lighthouse authorities. However, communication was lost around 12:41 a.m. The body was found floating about 10 nautical miles from the mouth of the Demerara River on March 10, and was identified based on a scar and a tattoo.
