The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to release an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections following the completion of an internal review process. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), announced the development on Tuesday in Gombe during an interactive session with commission staff from the North-East zone. According to Amupitan, the review was initiated to address various complaints submitted to the commission, specifically regarding typographical errors in candidates’ names and instances of double nominations. Amupitan stated that the commission utilized a 14-day window to conduct the review and verify the accuracy of the candidate information. “As you know, usually, in any list published, there could be errors here and there, and there have been complaints of misspelling of names. We have also received complaints of double nominations,” Amupitan said. “We decided to allow a maximum period of 14 days. Any moment now, we will make the review public, and the list will be released.” The disclosure comes as the commission continues its preparations for the 2027 general elections, with officials emphasizing the importance of maintaining accurate candidate records ahead of the polls.
