Zoo Captures Rogue Monkey in Port-of-Spain, Owner Unknown

Officials at the Emperor Valley Zoo captured a monkey that had been roaming Maraval Road and surrounding areas in Port-of-Spain. The zoo reported on Facebook that the monkey does not belong to the Zoological Society of T&T and received multiple calls from concerned residents about the animal’s presence. There were unverified social media claims of the monkey entering a vehicle and engaging with a woman, but the zoo did not confirm these reports. Instead, two zookeepers successfully retrieved the monkey from a car park on Sweet Briar Road. Upon examination, staff found a collar tightly fastened around the monkey’s waist, which was promptly removed. The monkey is now safely housed at the Emperor Valley Zoo. Zoo officials clarified that they do not use collars or belts on their animals. The owner of the monkey remains unknown, but the zoo stated that the owner can reclaim the animal if they present a valid permit from the Forestry Division.
