Dr Maryam Mohammed, a 25-year-old Trinidadian doctor who travelled to India for a liver transplant, tragically passed away on Tuesday due to complications resulting from the surgery. The operation took place in New Delhi, with her burial following Islamic rites conducted on the following day. Mohammed’s cousin, Sharida McKenzie, revealed that this was a second liver transplant for the young doctor, which was performed on November 18, 2025, following complications from her first transplant. McKenzie, who had previously established a GoFund-Me campaign to aid in covering Mohammed’s treatment expenses, announced the devastating news of her cousin’s passing on Wednesday.
