Former President Donald Trump directed personal remarks at a Reuters reporter on Thursday after being questioned about his decision to cancel upcoming campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa. The exchange occurred as Trump returned to Washington following a campaign event in South Carolina. When asked by White House correspondent Jacob Bogage if the cancellation of his weekend travel suggested he was “sick of travelling,” Trump responded by criticizing the reporter’s physical appearance. “I feel perfect. You are disgusting,” Trump told the reporter. “Put yourself in shape. You look like hell.” Trump further characterized the question as “sick” and noted that the reporter had been covering his campaign for two weeks. The interaction followed the announcement that Trump had canceled planned weekend stops in Kansas and Iowa. Trump stated that he did not feel obligated to visit Kansas, noting that Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is facing Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton, was performing well enough to not require an in-person appearance. Trump added that he would instead participate in a tele-rally for the state and maintained that his scheduled travel to Florida on Friday would proceed as planned. The Republican National Committee subsequently confirmed the cancellation of the Iowa rally, a state where several congressional races remain competitive. MAGA Inc., a campaign funding group aligned with the former president, announced that it would organize telephone rallies featuring Trump in at least 19 states leading up to Election Day. Since October 1, Trump has held 25 rallies across 19 states, focusing largely on rural communities. The upcoming elections will determine which party holds the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
