The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has launched an investigation into the death of a 47-year-old stevedore following an industrial accident at the Woodbridge Bay Port in Fond Colé. The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday, according to police sources.
The stevedore, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was involved in an accident at the port that proved fatal. Emergency services responded, but the worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodbridge Bay Port is a key commercial hub for Dominica, handling cargo and passenger traffic. The accident has raised concerns about workplace safety protocols at the facility.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the nature of the accident as the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
