Wolf Pack: Scotland’s first intergenerational dance company

Barrowland Ballet, a Glasgow-based dance company supported by Creative Scotland, has launched Wolf Pack, described as Scotland’s first intergenerational dance company. The group features a diverse ensemble of twenty performers of varying ages and physical backgrounds, focusing on themes of trust, community, and social commentary.

The company’s recent performances incorporate a mix of dance, narration, and film. One featured work, titled Like Blood, explores themes of life and biology, while other segments address complex social issues. The piece See Me examines topics of identity, prejudice, and privilege, featuring personal reflections on the experience of being Scottish and Nigerian. Another segment, titled And I’ll Huff, uses the imagery of the Three Little Pigs to reflect on vulnerabilities experienced during the COVID-19 lockdown, while the performance concludes with HaHaHa, a segment addressing anti-migrant rhetoric.

The choreography utilizes varied movements, including sequences where dancers form conga-like chains to represent DNA structures. Additionally, the company produced a film titled Wolf, which draws on folklore to explore the dynamics of mentorship between older and younger generations.

The performances are designed to highlight the collaboration between different age groups, with the company positioning itself as a platform for community engagement and social advocacy.
