In the race for Palopo’s mayoral seat, online popularity is making headlines. Candidate Budi Sada has emerged as the most searched figure on Google, with 434,000 results, outpacing incumbent HM Judas Amir (245,000) and Akhmad Syarifuddin (110,000).
Online media practitioner Iccank Razcal said the trend shows candidates are adapting to the digital era. ‘They are becoming tech-savvy, and this is important given the huge rise in internet users,’ he said, noting Indonesia now has 132 million users—a 50% jump from last year.
With the Pilwalkot Palopo attracting many new candidates, the competition is fierce. Budi Sada’s Google dominance suggests that online presence could be a game-changer in the upcoming election.
