West Belfast Fans Launch Campaign for Jack Charlton Statue at Aviva Stadium

The West Belfast Ireland Supporter’s Club is calling for a statue of Jack Charlton to be erected at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The 85-year-old former Republic of Ireland manager, who passed away on Friday, led the team to two European Championship qualifications and their first World Cup appearance in 1990.

Club members say the statue would be a fitting tribute to the man who transformed Irish football and brought unprecedented success. They have urged the Football Association of Ireland and stadium authorities to consider the proposal.

Charlton took charge in February 1986 and is widely credited with uniting the nation through football. His legacy remains strong, particularly in Northern Ireland where he is revered by fans across the divide.

The campaign has gained traction on social media, with many supporters sharing their memories. A petition may be launched to formalize the demand.
