Caritas Tirol calls for increased funding to support young people facing a range of crises, including rising living costs and food insecurity. At the youth centre “Space” in Innsbruck’s Reichenau district, Sebastian Gabl, the centre’s director, and Elisabeth Rathgeb, head of Caritas Tirol, discussed the growing challenges that adolescents are confronting. Gabl noted that the centre is now cooking meals more frequently because an increasing number of youths are unable to secure enough food at home. “The consequences of the price rise are not sparing young people,” Gabl said. “We see more and more teenagers who are struggling to meet basic needs.” Rathgeb highlighted that the current economic pressures, combined with other social and psychological stresses, are creating a “multiple crisis” for the region’s youth. She urged local authorities and the community to allocate additional resources for youth care services. Caritas Tirol’s request for more funding aims to strengthen support structures for young people, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition, counseling, and other essential services during this difficult period.
