Volebná nedeľa bude aj v Srbsku. Predčasné voľby rozhodnú, či Vučić ostane pri moci

Early parliamentary elections are being held in Serbia today, a vote that will determine whether President Aleksandar Vučić will retain power. Vučić has dominated Serbian politics since 2012, but his position is now challenged by a student movement that has called for accountability over the November 2024 tragedy in Novi Sad, in which 16 people died when a station shelter collapsed. The protests, which have continued for almost two years, began with student demonstrations demanding investigations into the incident. Vučić resigned from the presidency at the end of September and announced that he will run in the early parliamentary elections as the head of the United Serbia candidate list, with the aim of becoming the next prime minister. His second presidential term would have ended in the first half of next year, and the constitution now bars him from seeking a third term. Opponents accuse Vučić of corruption, ties to organized crime, and suppression of media freedom. The student-led candidate list is the main competitor to Vučić’s coalition and, according to polls, has a realistic chance of winning the election. Voters will decide the composition of the 250‑member parliament. Approximately 6.4 million citizens are eligible to vote, and polling stations will be open from 07:00 to 20:00.
