Vladimir Guerrero, former Major League Baseball star and Hall of Famer, visited the Dominican Republic U‑18 national baseball team during the Pan American U‑18 Championship held at the IPL Academy Complex in Guerra. While in the team’s locker room, Guerrero urged the young players to view him as a role model and to continue playing with the same passion and pride he had shown in his own career. “I want the boys to see us as an example and keep playing with the strength they are showing, and continue representing our country,” he said. Guerrero expressed his joy at meeting the squad and wished them success in their future careers. “I didn’t have the opportunity to represent our country at that age, but I hope God blesses these young men and that many of them continue to represent our flag,” he added. The visit coincided with the birthday of Guerrero’s brother, Wilton Guerrero, who serves as the Dominican team’s hitting coach. “We’ve always gotten along well, and it was a good coincidence that my brother was celebrating his birthday. I try to stay focused with him, especially since we’re both working in baseball with our children,” Guerrero said. The Guerrero family has deep ties to professional baseball. Vladimir Jr. is a current Toronto Blue Jays outfielder, while Pablo Guerrero and Vladi Miguel are in the minor leagues. Wilton Jr. began his career in the 2026 Summer League and was selected for the All‑Stars team. Their cousin Gabriel Guerrero also played in the majors. The Pan American U‑18 Championship brings together teams from across the continent to compete for a spot in the U‑18 World Cup. Games are broadcast on Grupo de Medios Panorama channels, its digital portal, and the VTV Canal 32 YouTube channel.
