Nine soldiers from the National Armed Forces provided emergency assistance following a serious traffic accident in the Ogre region on Saturday, September 19. The soldiers, members of the 54th Combat Support Battalion of the National Guard, were returning to Ogre after completing training exercises on the Daugava River when they encountered the crash on the Tinuzi-Koknese road.
The incident occurred while the soldiers were stopped at a temporary traffic light near a road construction site. According to the National Armed Forces, a truck collided with vehicles waiting at the signal in the opposite lane. The soldiers immediately intervened, calling for emergency medical services, assessing the condition of the victims, and administering first aid based on their military training.
While some soldiers attended to the injured, others secured the scene and halted traffic in both directions to ensure safety until professional emergency services arrived. Traffic at the site was restored shortly before 8:00 p.m., according to Latvian State Roads.
The actions of the soldiers received significant public attention and praise on social media, with witnesses and family members of the personnel commending their professional and coordinated response. The National Guard stated that the soldiers’ quick actions were instrumental in providing necessary support to the victims until medical personnel reached the scene.
