Virgil Popescu, a member of the European Parliament and former Romanian Minister of Energy, stated that Romania would have benefited from increased security in the Black Sea region if American companies had developed the Neptun Deep gas project.
During an interview on the Cotidianul podcast, Popescu argued that the involvement of American entities would have accelerated the extraction of natural gas from the offshore perimeter. He suggested that such a development would have provided an additional layer of security for the country.
