VHP: Laat Diváli ons leiden naar voorspoed, vrede en eenheid

The Vooruitstrevende Hervormings-Partij (VHP) has issued a message to the Surinamese community in celebration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. In the statement, the party wishes all Hindus in Suriname a blessed, joyful and prosperous Diwali, and calls for the festival to guide the nation toward prosperity, peace, solidarity and unity. Diwali, which marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness, is described by the VHP as a time for reflection and communal harmony. The party highlights the central role of Lakshmi Mata, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, happiness and well‑being, and urges believers to seek her blessings for their families and futures. The message stresses that true wealth extends beyond material possessions to include health, wisdom, inner peace, family happiness, compassion and a caring society. The VHP, which identifies itself as a party of brotherhood and solidarity, emphasizes the importance of mutual respect, tolerance, solidarity and unity in Suriname’s culturally, religiously and ethnically diverse society. The party calls for a society in which people of all backgrounds can live in peace and work together to build a just, prosperous and united nation. The message was published in the editorial section of the newspaper Ware Tijd. The newspaper’s editorial policy states that submitted pieces are generally published unless they contain harmful, offensive or defamatory content.
