Veronika Zonabend appeals to Alen Simonyan over possible visit to Baku

Veronika Zonabend, the wife of Armenian businessman Ruben Vardanyan, sent a letter to Alen Simonyan, the Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council, expressing her support for a potential visit to Baku.

In the letter, Zonabend noted that she had learned from media reports that Simonyan might travel to Azerbaijan. She welcomed the possibility of the trip and suggested that it could create new opportunities to address humanitarian concerns related to Armenian hostages and their families.

She quoted Simonyan’s earlier statements: “On the path toward achieving peace, resolving all humanitarian issues is of vital importance, and in this context, the urgent and safe return of the Armenian hostages is of paramount importance.” Zonabend said she shared this position and offered to accompany Simonyan to Baku.

Zonabend asked whether Simonyan planned to visit the hostages during his trip and whether he would meet with their families beforehand, listen to their requests, and accept letters to be delivered to the hostages. She emphasized that the opportunity for families to see their loved ones, learn about their condition, and convey personal messages of support was of great importance.

She concluded by requesting a response and expressing hope that the visit could be used to take a concrete humanitarian step.
