In the early hours of Sunday, July 5, a 23-year-old Venezuelan national was fatally shot near the Penal Police Station. The deceased, identified as Jhoskueiner Rafael Cotua Alexander, was killed when gunmen opened fire outside a local bar on Clarke Street, Penal, just metres from the police station.
In the same incident, another Venezuelan man, 32-year-old Thomas Wills Quijada Guariguta, was wounded. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and was promptly taken to the Siparia District Health Facility for treatment.
The shooting took place around 2:25 a.m., causing panic and shock among the local community. The police were quick to respond, recovering 11 spent 9mm shell casings from the scene. As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigations into the fatal incident are ongoing.
The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, especially considering the proximity of the shooting to the police station. The local community is anxiously awaiting updates as law enforcement officials continue their work to find those responsible.
