Venezuela Secures Non-Repayable Aid from IDB and World Bank for Earthquake Reconstruction

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez has secured non-reimbursable aid from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank to support reconstruction after the double earthquake that struck the country on June 24. The announcement came after a high-level meeting in Caracas between Rodríguez and an IDB delegation led by Vice President of Countries and Regional Integration Anabel González.

The aid package will be directed primarily toward housing reconstruction and will be subject to full audit mechanisms, Rodríguez confirmed. The meeting included other IDB officials such as Andre Soares, Head of the IDB Office, and Miguel Coronado, General Manager for Andean Countries. Venezuela’s economic cabinet also attended, including Vice President of the Economic Sector and Minister of Economy and Finance Anabel Pereira Fernández, among others.

This engagement marks a milestone in restoring international financial cooperation with Venezuela, which has been largely isolated from multilateral lenders in recent years. The IDB has framed its support as part of broader efforts to stabilize the regional economy and normalize technical relations, following similar steps by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank earlier this year.
