According to a report by CNN, Russia is allegedly providing Iran with satellite intelligence to assist in attacks against United States military installations in the Middle East. Two U.S. officials cited in the report stated that evidence indicates Russia shares data collected by its spy satellites, which facilitates the planning of high-precision strikes.
The report highlights a specific incident involving the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, which was targeted in March. Analysis conducted with experts suggests that fourteen Russian spy satellites were positioned over the airbase just two days before the attack occurred. The strike resulted in the destruction of an airborne early warning and control aircraft, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, and left 12 U.S. service members wounded.
Sources told CNN that the level of precision required for such an attack would have been nearly impossible to achieve without the support of satellite intelligence. Officials indicated that Iran has utilized Russian satellite reconnaissance in other operations against U.S. interests as well.
Experts interviewed by CNN suggest that Russia’s decision to share this intelligence is a response to the United States providing similar support to Ukraine. Neither Russian nor Iranian officials have provided immediate comment on the allegations presented in the report.
