UTT Executive Chairman Selwyn Cudjoe Refutes $100,000‑Monthly Salary Claim Amid Funding Scrutiny

University of Trinidad and Tobago executive chairman Professor Selwyn Cudjoe has flatly rejected claims that his monthly remuneration exceeds $100,000. In a brief statement, Cudjoe said, “There is no truth to that,” after former education minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby‑Dolly publicly questioned the figure.

Gadsby‑Dolly noted that Cudjoe previously received an estimated $8,000 a month as chairman of the Board of Governors and suggested the new executive role had dramatically increased his pay. She argued that such a six‑figure salary would be hard to justify while UTT continues to struggle with unpaid staff wages and ongoing collective‑bargaining talks.

No independent audit or financial record has confirmed the alleged $100,000‑plus salary, and the university has not released details of the executive chairman’s compensation package. The Express sought comment from Tertiary Education Minister Professor Prakash Persad, who declined to comment on the matter.

The dispute has reignited broader concerns about transparency and fiscal responsibility in publicly funded institutions across Trinidad and Tobago. Critics say the lack of disclosure fuels suspicion that limited university resources may be diverted to senior officials, while staff wages remain unsettled.

Calls for a formal audit and clearer reporting standards grow louder, with stakeholders urging UTT to publish detailed remuneration data to restore public confidence.
