Cooper Koch is up for an Emmy for portraying Lyle Menendez in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” On the awards show red carpet, he shared a message from Menendez himself.
Koch revealed to Variety that Lyle reached out to him before the Emmy Awards with a touching message, reminding him that the focus should not be on the accolade but on raising awareness.
Koch quoted Lyle, saying, “All that matters is the awareness.” This sentiment reflects the ongoing discussion surrounding the Menendez brothers, who were recently denied parole in a hearing that their lawyer, Mark Geragos, described as “rigged” during an episode of the “2 Angry Men” podcast.
Geragos criticized the parole board for overlooking Erik and Lyle’s positive contributions while focusing on minor infractions. Lyle may have another chance for a parole hearing in as soon as 18 months, but the recent denial was a setback for both brothers.
Additionally, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” received two Emmy nominations, one for Koch and another for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
If Koch wins, he is expected to highlight Erik and Lyle in his acceptance speech, demonstrating his commitment to supporting them.
