A routine afternoon stop at a supermarket turned into a nightmare for United National Congress (UNC) Senator, David Nakhid. On Monday, April 27th, around 4:15 p.m., Nakhid’s vehicle was broken into while parked at the Simple Choice Mart car park in Cascade. The thieves made away with a significant haul, leaving the senator to count substantial losses.
Upon returning to his black Mercedes-Benz just minutes after securing it, Nakhid discovered the rear right-side glass had been smashed. A quick check revealed that a black Armani backpack had been stolen. This was no ordinary backpack, as it contained $10,000 in cash, a Christian Dior perfume valued at $2,600, and a Lacoste fragrance worth $800. In addition, several local and foreign identification cards, bank cards, and keys to Nakhid’s home were also taken.
The incident was promptly reported to the police who arrived on the scene to begin their investigations. Their preliminary probe led to the recovery of workable fingerprints from the vehicle, which are expected to assist in identifying the culprits.
The investigation into the incident is being spearheaded by WPC Cruickshank of the Belmont CID. Senator Nakhid, aside from his role in the UNC, also serves as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.
