UAE sponsors mass wedding for 250 Palestinian couples

The United Arab Emirates organized a mass wedding for 250 Palestinian couples in Gaza, holding the ceremony on Friday at a beachfront in Gaza City. The event was arranged under the UAE’s Operation Gallant Knight 3, according to a report by the UAE‑based newspaper The National. Brides and grooms from across the enclave gathered for the celebration. Women wore wedding gowns and carried bouquets, while men appeared in dark suits, some also wearing traditional keffiyeh scarves. Many of the couples had postponed their weddings because of the war, displacement and financial hardship that have made it difficult for young Palestinians to afford marriage ceremonies. Dr Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s diplomatic adviser to President Sheikh Mohamed, said the event reflected his country’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to Gaza. “Gaza and its people remain at the heart of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts despite the world’s many crises,” Gargash told The National. He added that humanitarian assistance “is not limited to easing suffering but also includes efforts to bring back a smile and revive hope for a better tomorrow.” The wedding coincided with the UAE’s three‑year anniversary of Operation Gallant Knight 3, the humanitarian mission to Gaza launched on 5 November 2023. According to figures released by the Emirates News Agency, the operation has delivered more than 136,000 tonnes of aid, valued at $4.16 billion. The UAE said its contribution accounted for about 46 percent of the international humanitarian assistance reaching the Palestinian territory. The aid programme includes food, medical supplies, shelter and other support for residents affected by the conflict.
