Two passengers die after bus and car collide on St Mary road

Two passengers died following a collision between a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Fielder on the Galina main road in St Mary on Monday, according to police accounts reported by The Gleaner.

The crash happened at about 2:00 pm. The white Hiace was travelling towards Port Maria, while the grey Fielder, carrying three people, was heading in the opposite direction towards Oracabessa.

Police said the bus driver reportedly lost control on a section of the road, crossed into the opposing lane and collided with the car. The circumstances remain under investigation.

Head of the St Mary Police Division Anthony Wallace said the drivers and passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Port Maria Hospital. Two passengers from the Fielder were pronounced dead there.

Wallace said the other people involved suffered serious injuries and received hospital treatment. The report did not provide a total number of injured people, and police had not released the names of those who died.

The Gleaner also cited Island Traffic Authority figures showing 283 road deaths from 242 fatal crashes between January 1 and October 26, 2026. Although speeding was identified as a leading cause of fatal crashes nationally, the report did not establish it as a cause of the Galina collision.

Wallace renewed his appeal for motorists to observe speed limits, maintain lane discipline and exercise care. Police are continuing their investigation into how the vehicles collided.
