TV host Ian Alleyne successfully defended himself against a lawsuit filed by Chaguanas mechanic, Daniel Ramnath, who alleged wrongful arrest after appearing on Alleyne’s show. High Court Judge Westmin James dismissed the claims against Alleyne, ruling that Ramnath was not wholly deprived of his liberty before police arrived. However, Ramnath was awarded over $250,000 in compensation for unlawful detention by police, after the court ruled his six-day detention was a breach of his constitutional rights. The court found no evidence to support Ramnath’s claims of assault by police officers.
