Trump announces “Infinite Life” Greenland deal with Denmark; vows permanent US security control, expanded military presence

United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday what he described as an Infinite Life agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland. According to the president, the pact grants the United States permanent control over security matters in Greenland and allows Washington to restrict adversaries from establishing a military presence or making sensitive investments on the island.

In a statement posted to social media, Trump claimed the agreement addresses United States security concerns at no cost to the country. He stated that the deal provides the U.S. with the authority to take necessary measures to defend both Greenland and the United States, noting that no foreign adversary may establish a base or military presence in Greenland without express written approval from Washington.

Trump also announced plans to initiate the development of an expanded United States military presence on the island, stating that the U.S. would work with the people of Greenland on the construction. He characterized the agreement as a permanent, non-expiring arrangement that benefits the United States, Denmark, Greenland, and their allies.

The announcement follows long-standing interest from the Trump administration in the strategic importance of Greenland, which is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. The island occupies a significant position between North America and Europe, making it a focal point for Arctic security discussions amid increasing activity from Russia and China in the region.

The specific legal terms and scope of the agreement have not been made public. The announcement coincides with ongoing efforts by the European Union, Denmark, and Greenland to strengthen their own political and economic partnerships, including a recently announced 200-million-euro investment package from the European Commission for the 2026 and 2027 period.
