This report covers trinidad tobago: family deceased with key details and context.

The family of Allanlane Ramkissoon, a Massy Energy employee who died following an explosion at the NiQuan Energy gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant in June 2023, is expressing hope as NiQuan has announced it is up for sale. Ramkissoon suffered severe burns covering approximately 40 percent of his body and injuries from a ten-foot fall during the incident. The explosion occurred on June 18, and a report detailing the incident was presented in the House of Representatives shortly thereafter.

Energy Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal criticized the previous government for its lack of transparency regarding the report, which includes 15 findings and recommendations for NiQuan. However, with the company currently in receivership, there is no operational plant or process to implement these recommendations. This situation has raised concerns about the future of the plant and the potential for accountability regarding the incident.

A family member of Ramkissoon shared with Newsday their optimism for potential compensation if NiQuan can stabilize financially after the sale. They expressed a reliance on faith and support from one another as they cope with their loss, describing the situation as sometimes feeling surreal. The family is hopeful that the sale of NiQuan could lead to a resolution that provides them with some form of justice or compensation for their loss.

trinidad tobago: family deceased: key developments so far.

NiQuan has issued a request for expressions of interest from qualified parties for the purchase of its 4.265-hectare property and GTL plant located in Pointe-a-Pierre. The facility is noted as the first commercial gas-to-liquids plant in the Americas, designed to produce between 2,050 to 2,400 barrels per day of ultra-low sulfur diesel and naphtha. The plant’s unique position in the market could attract potential buyers looking to invest in energy production.

Interested buyers can obtain a confidential information memorandum by signing a confidentiality agreement and paying a non-refundable fee. Submissions for expressions of interest are due by 4 PM on November 14. This timeline indicates that NiQuan is moving forward with the sale process, which could have significant implications for the future of the facility and its employees.

Moonilal acknowledged the notice regarding the sale but did not provide further comments by the time of publication. The situation remains fluid as stakeholders await developments in the sale process and the potential impact on the community and the Ramkissoon family.

As the family navigates their grief, they remain hopeful that the outcome of the sale could lead to a more stable future for them and possibly address the issues raised in the report regarding the explosion. The community is also watching closely, as the fate of the NiQuan plant could affect local employment and economic conditions.

In summary, the family of Allanlane Ramkissoon is holding onto hope as NiQuan Energy prepares to sell its gas-to-liquids plant, with the potential for compensation and accountability still on the horizon. The upcoming expressions of interest deadline marks a critical point in the process, and the family, along with the community, will be observing the developments closely.
