Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced that her government has kept its promise to regulate the use of fireworks in Trinidad and Tobago. She elaborated that residents will be allowed to use fireworks only for a single hour during each public holiday, amounting to a total of 16 hours throughout the year. This leaves 8,644 hours during which the use of fireworks will be prohibited. The Summary Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2025, set for debate in Parliament today, will require individuals to obtain a permit to ignite fireworks, with the exception of public holidays and New Year’s Eve.
