Trinidad Listed Among Caribbean’s Dirtiest Cities in Travel Video

Trinidad and Tobago has been included in a viral social media video highlighting waste management challenges across several Caribbean cities, with the creator urging viewers to look beyond the region’s postcard-perfect beaches and confront what he describes as a growing environmental crisis.

Travel content creator Drew Binsky recently shared a countdown of what he called the “nine dirtiest cities in the Caribbean,” ranking destinations based on issues such as overflowing landfills, illegal dumping, polluted waterways and inadequate waste management infrastructure. The video has attracted widespread attention online, sparking discussion among viewers across the region.

Port of Spain was ranked fifth on the list. In the video, Binsky points to the Beetham Landfill on the outskirts of the capital, describing it as a massive waste disposal site that has experienced repeated fires over the years. He says the resulting smoke has, at times, affected surrounding communities and disrupted normal activities.

Other cities featured in the countdown include Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien in Haiti, Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Havana in Cuba, Kingston in Jamaica, Nassau in The Bahamas, Belize City in Belize, and Georgetown, Guyana, which Binsky ranked as the dirtiest city in the Caribbean. Throughout the video, he highlights concerns ranging from blocked drainage systems and illegal dumping to landfill fires, plastic pollution and environmental degradation.
