Trinidad and Tobago’s athletes who secured medals at this year’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games have been awarded a total of TT$150,000 in bonuses by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC). The presentation ceremony took place at the TTOC Olympic House in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday, overseen by TTOC President Diane Henderson.
The country’s delegation, comprising 148 athletes—74 men and 74 women—won a total of 21 medals (six gold, five silver, and 10 bronze), securing Trinidad and Tobago’s ninth-place finish on the medal table. This marks the highest position achieved by any English-speaking Caribbean nation at the Games, held in the Dominican Republic.
Swimmer Nikoli Blackman led the medal haul with two individual golds in the men’s 50m and 100m freestyle, along with a gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. Other gold medalists included Dylan Carter (men’s 50m butterfly), cyclist Kwesi Browne (men’s keirin), and the women’s netball team.
In her address, Henderson praised the athletes for their dedication, emphasising that their success was the result of years of sacrifice. ‘This bonus is a tangible expression of our gratitude,’ she said, ‘but your value to this nation goes far beyond.’ She urged the athletes to inspire future generations, noting that their achievements were not accidental but the product of relentless effort.
The CAC Games, a multi-sport event held every four years, serve as a key platform for Caribbean athletes to showcase their talents. Trinidad and Tobago’s strong performance underscores the nation’s growing competitiveness in regional sports.
