Trinidad Artist Medz Boss Seeks Bail After PDO Revoked, Faces Electricity Theft Charge

Trinidadian music star Joseph “Medz Boss” Olliviere has filed an urgent bail application in the Port of Spain High Court after Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander revoked a Preventive Detention Order (PDO) on August 24. Although the PDO was lifted, Olliviere remains in custody on a separate charge of illegally extracting electricity.

His lawyers, Criston Williams and Selena Mohammed, contend that the removal of the PDO fundamentally alters the circumstances that justified his detention. They argue that the administrative basis for his pre‑trial confinement no longer exists and that a fresh assessment is warranted. The attorneys emphasize the urgency, warning that without an expedited hearing he could spend several more months behind bars.

In addition to legal arguments, the team highlighted Olliviere’s proposed “Medz Boss: Wisdom Superhero Peace Platform,” a youth‑engagement initiative developed with the Quantum Foundation. They claim the programme could provide a structured, supervised environment in which the artist can demonstrate responsibility and positive community influence while complying with court conditions.

The lawyers also raised concerns about the conditions at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre in Santa Rosa, citing overcrowding and inadequate sanitation and ventilation. They argue that such factors further undermine the proportionality of continued pre‑trial detention.

The High Court now faces a request to reconsider Olliviere’s bail eligibility, weighing the revoked PDO, the proposed community platform, and the conditions of his current confinement.
