Trinidad and Tobago to Launch 30 Joint Army-Police Posts to Enhance Public Safety

In a bid to tackle the persistent crime rates in Trinidad and Tobago, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the establishment of 30 joint army-police posts across the nation. This initiative, set to roll out over the next four months, is a response to the growing demand from communities for a more robust security presence.

The Prime Minister made the announcement through her official Facebook page, highlighting the Government’s commitment to enhancing public safety and reclaiming public spaces from criminal elements. The new security posts are strategically planned for locations such as major intersections, highways, and community hubs, including Tarouba Flyover, Grand Bazaar Interchange, and Couva Interchange among others.

Persad-Bissessar emphasized the importance of community involvement in the success of this initiative. She urged non-governmental organizations, business chambers, community groups, and local councils to support and adopt these posts, working collaboratively with security services to ensure their effectiveness.

Acknowledging the efforts of the country’s security leadership, the Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, Strategic Services Agency Director Alicia Henry, Chief of Defence Staff Commodore Don Polo, and other members of the protective services. She reaffirmed the Government’s confidence in their vision to decrease crime and enhance safety for citizens.

This initiative is part of a broader government strategy aimed at reducing crime and enhancing public confidence in safety measures. With six additional sites yet to be identified, the Government is moving aggressively to meet the security demands of its citizens.
