Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, recently emphasized that her country will not be involved in the blockade ordered by US President Donald Trump on all ‘sanctioned oil tankers’ entering Venezuela. This declaration came after Trump intensified pressure on Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro. The US President claims that Venezuela uses oil revenues to fund illicit activities, and demanded the country to hand over oil, land, and other assets to the US. However, Persad-Bissessar stated that her country’s alliance with the US is centered on maintaining safety and security in Trinidad and Tobago, rather than involving itself in US administrative issues. She also highlighted recent advances in her country’s law and order, with a significant decrease in murders and substantial drug busts.
