Trinidad and Tobago MPs Review School Violence Amidst Police Presence

In a recent parliamentary session, members of Trinidad and Tobago’s Parliament debated the growing concern of school violence across the country. The discussion primarily focused on the presence of police officers in schools as a measure to curb the incidents of violence. However, several parliamentarians expressed concerns over the impact of this approach, as the incidents appear to be on the rise despite the police involvement.

According to the Minister of Education, there is an urgent need to re-evaluate the current strategies and develop a more structured approach to effectively address the root causes of such violence. The session highlighted calls for mental health support and more substantial reforms aimed at tackling the factors contributing to the problem within the educational sector.

The Minister of Homeland Security also weighed in, stressing the necessity of a collaborative effort between various governmental and non-governmental agencies to create a safer and more conducive learning environment for students. The debate underscored the importance of immediate action to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
